Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics: Jaylen Brown uncertain of team direction after Tatum and Durant offseason workout

“So, I wasn’t sure what the energy was. I wasn’t sure what the direction of the organization was.”

Jaylen Brown has done two different sit down interviews that have been released within the last week: one with The New York Times and one with The Ringer. In these interviews, he’s been very honest and outspoken about his time and future with the Boston Celtics.

In this January interview with The Ringer, Brown said he was unsure of the direction the Celtics were going when he heard his name in trade rumors for Kevin Durant and then saw his teammate Jayson Tatum working out with him.

“He [KD] and JT are friends. They was working out together and whatnot. So, I wasn’t sure what the energy was. I wasn’t sure what the direction of the organization was.”

This response shows that Brown understands the team runs through Tatum. And it should, in certain ways, as he’s the best player on the team and an ascending superstar in this league, but this shows that Brown feels disrespected by the team and it’s been that way for a while now.

I don’t believe this team works without the pairing of Brown and Tatum. It’s hard to hear how frustrated Brown is and that he’s been essentially masking it all to “sacrifice and win a title.”
