Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics: Blake Griffin talks about being an energy spark for Boston this season

Boston Celtics veteran Blake Griffin talks about the impact drawing a charge has on the game and what it does for the energy of a team.

“I like to think so. Taking a charge is a huge momentum shifter. Derrick and Smarty do that incredibly well and you can feel it. When I’m on the bench and those guys take charges, it’s a big play for us. The ones that aren’t called, those kind of hurt. But that’s just kind of my role, is to do that kind of stuff.”

Here are the Celtics totals in charges drawn this season:

  • Blake Griffin: 15
  • Derrick White: 13
  • Marcus Smart: 11
  • Grant Williams: 6

Griffin has been great for the Celtics in his role and limited run he gets. He receives spot-starts on nights that Al Horford and Rob Williams are out of the lineup.

He started on Friday night against the Utah Jazz, finishing the night with six points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and one steal in 25 minutes.

Griffin, his experience and maturity, will come in handy for the Celtics in the playoffs.
