ESPN insider suggests Houston Rockets targeting Jaylen Brown and Ime Udoka
Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown reached the ears of opposing general managers in early March in the work of two disgruntled interviews with The New York Times and The Ringer.
These two interviews were more or less Brown just expressing himself and getting things off his chest, but you can’t disregard the fact that he’s unhappy in Boston by the conclusion of both interviews.
It’s worth mentioning that although Brown did agree to these interviews, he had no idea of when they’d be released. The interview he did with The Ringer was done in January but released in March, literally only day(s) after The New York Times published theirs.
Brown’s words reached the heights of the national media, both for his frustrations with the Celtics and the city of Boston. Again, it’s hard to believe that all of this won’t drive him out of Boston when that time comes.
One team that has already leaked interest in Brown is the Houston Rockets. John Granato of ESPN 97.5 suggests that the Rockets are interested in Brown and will go all the way to get him, even if it means hiring Ime Udoka.
“Yesterday, I got some insight into the Rockets organization bringing in veterans. They’re going to do that. I’m going to tell you this. You’re gonna hear a lot of noise about Jaylen Brown. He wants out of Boston. It’s the same as Harden. Daryl Morey thought Harden had star-level ability, which he did. There are guys in this rotation right now that are going to be bench players. They’re not satisfied. I don’t think Tillman is going to be afraid of Ime Udoka.”
The Rockets targeting Brown is one thing. But the thought of sweetening the deal by hiring Udoka, a coach that Brown connected with and had success under his leadership, in a way to further persuade Brown is something we haven’t heard yet.
Brown is averaging career-highs across the board while having an All-NBA caliber season, averaging 26.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game with shooting splits of 49/34/77.
The new CBA will allow the Celtics to offer Brown a regular-max contract worth in the vicinity of $200 million, regardless if he makes an All-NBA team or not.
