The Boston Celtics lost a close one on Tuesday night to the Philadelphia 76ers, 101-103 , as Boston played their final road game of the regular season.
In a game that didn’t feature Jaylen Brown (low back pain) or Robert Williams (injury management) the Celtics surely missed them in this one.
Fast forwarding to the fourth quarter on the final play. We see Derrick White inbound to Jayson Tatum with 2.0 seconds remaining in the game.
Tatum made a quick decision to dribble to the play-side corner for a pull-up as he’s trying to avoid being trapped. Tatum, unaware in the moment, left White WIDE OPEN for a potential game-winner, not to mention he was the hot hand anyway.
Here’s the play below:
This wasn’t a terrible loss by any means. But a loss that could have been prevented, even with a shorthanded team.
We’ve seen this multiple times now this season where the final play of the game is illustrated for Tatum, regardless of the type of game he’s having and rather than riding the hot hand.
