Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla comes from a family of a basketball household with a blue collar mindset in Rhode Island with two other siblings, a brother and a sister.
The head of the family, Dan, was a former All-State player having won multiple championships at Johnston High School in 1974 and 1975 before coming up just short in 1976.
Mazzulla went on to become a standout at Bryant, leading the Indians — now Bulldogs —to their first ever two NCAA Tournaments during his four years there. He finished his career with 1,390 points and 761 rebounds, both of which are atop the best in school history.

Mazzulla went undrafted in 1980 and played professionally in Chile for five years. He was inducted into the Bryant Hall of Fame in 2007.

When his playing days were done, he didn’t leave the court. Dan Mazzulla gave back to his community, leading the way for future generations of athletes, as he coached boys and girls basketball, track, and soccer.
