Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Should Jaylen Brown have passed on the Grant Williams question or showed support for his teammate?

The Celtics absolutely no-showed at the end of Game 2 in the Eastern Conference Finals. Just about the entire team decided to lay down in the fourth quarter, everyone except Grant Williams, that is.

Grant played early on in this game and was part of Joe Mazzulla’s eight-man rotation that included Malcolm Brogdon and Derrick White as well.

It was also evident that Grant was the only one on the Celtics who played with heart through the entire game. He didn’t give up and he most certainly didn’t back down from Jimmy Butler, unlike his teammates.

This altercation between Grant and Butler resulted in double technical fouls being issued to both players. Grant single handedly brought the TD Garden to their feet and got the crowd back into their lively selves.

There’s many Celtics fans and media members who are blaming Grant for the outcome of this game and I’m here to say that’s not fair at all to Grant. He stepped up to the challenge when no one else cared to. Not Jayson Tatum and not Jaylen Brown. But Grant Williams.

During his postgame press conference, Jaylen Brown was asked by Jay King of The Athletic if “Grant Williams poked the bear” in reference to the altercation between Grant and Butler, to which Grant responded by passing on the question.

It was surprising to see Brown not comment on the situation. But at the same time he’s probably over Grant’s antics and doesn’t want to waste any energy towards them, unfortunately.

Game 3 is Sunday in Miami for the first time in this series. It’ll be interesting to see how this game goes following the altercation from Game 2.
