Boston Celtics Sixth Man of the Year Malcolm Brogdon has been playing through a partial tear in the tendon that runs from his right elbow to his forearm, reported by Jared Weiss of The Athletic.
The injury happened during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals while boxing out Kevin Love.
Since the injury, Brogdon has shot 5-of-22 from 3-point range and has scored only two points in the last three games.
Here’s what Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said about Brogdon playing through his injury before Game 5 on Thursday night.
“He’s playing through it, giving us whatever he has, and we’re just kind of going through it like that, how he’s playing and how he’s managing it. He’s fighting through, and grateful for that.”
After Boston defeated Miami in Game 5 by 13-points, Mazzulla said this about Brogdon who played eight minutes and went 0-for-2.
“He’s doing the best he can with it.”
With Brogdon’s drop in production, it’s been creating opportunities for Grant Williams and Payton Pritchard to get on the court and help the Celtics in ways that Brogdon just isn’t able to right now with his injury.
Mazzulla has done well with rotating players in and using more of his roster. Brogdon is considered day-to-day with the forearm injury that’s limited him in this series.
Don’t be surprised if Grant, Pritchard, or even Sam Hauser – for the first time – gain extended opportunities in Game 6 with Brogdon being limited.
Game 6 is tonight in Miami.
