Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Celtics send Brogdon and Brown to Houston in this trade offer

The Celtics need to shake up their roster by adding without taking too much away.

One way of doing that is to trade Malcolm Brogdon after he just won the Sixth Man of the Year in his first season with Boston.

Brogdon can be the centerpiece around any trade Boston maneuvers this summer. He has two-years left on a $45 million contract he signed with Indiana and has an annual salary of $22,500,000 million for the next two years.

Trading Brogdon is also a move that doesn’t disrupt the core built around Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Marcus Smart, and Robert Williams.

A trade that works is sending Brogdon to Houston for Kevin Porter Jr.

As the Rockets are in a retooling phase under a new coaching regime with former Celtics coach Ime Udoka, they’ll be looking to bring in a couple of veterans to lead the way and set a standard for the young Rockets team.

It’s worth mentioning that Brogdon came to Boston with the notion he was playing for a coach in Udoka that he wanted to play for.

Considering some of the comments Brogdon’s made throughout the year, it’s fair to say he still would like to play for Udoka and might actually be open to playing in Houston to do so.

The Celtics need another player who can keep up with Tatum and Brown offensively. We saw in the Conference Finals when Tatum wasn’t playing well, Brown was unsuccessful and unable to carry the team when it needed him most.

Kevin Porter Jr. can be that guy for Boston.

Porter Jr. averaged 19.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game on 43/37/78 shooting splits in 59 games last season.

At 6-foot-4, 203 lbs, KPJ can realistically play one through four, although it’s worth he spent 99 percent of his playing time at point guard for the Rockets this past season.

KPJ’s scoring abilities paired with his playmaking skills makes him an ideal addition for the Celtics.

If Boston truly wants to shake things up and make a splash this offseason, they can package Jaylen Brown and Brogdon for Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green, along with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, along with other fillers.
