The Boston Celtics have some roster decisions to make this summer, as they should put some focus towards their frontcourt to support aging Al Horford and injury prone Rob Williams.
In an effort to do so during the season, the Celtics acquired veteran big man shooter Mike Muscala at the trading deadline. The veteran shooter averaged 6.1 points on 47/39/69 shooting splits in 20 games in Boston.
The Celtics have until June 29 to make a decision on Muscala’s $3.5 million team option for next season. Which isn’t a bad contract to have on the books for the 11th-best center who could hit free agency this summer, according to Frank Urbina of HoopsHype.
“A center who specializes in shooting threes and drawing charges. Knows his role and doesn’t try to do too much.”
Muscala’s size and skills as a shooter spaces the floor greatly for Boston and gives them a feature their frontcourt was missing.
No matter if the Celtics offer Jaylen Brown a supermax contract or if they match an offer sheet from Grant Williams in restricted free agency, Boston should certainly pick up the option on Muscala.
I expect him to be in Boston for 2023-24.
