Here in Boston, we’re lucky to have some of the best reporters and journalists in the sports media market that we do. Although it seems like an easy and cushy job, it is far from that. Sure, you get to go to every game and share your thoughts about it for a living, but it’s truly easier said than done.
Here’s a list of the top Boston Celtics podcast that every fan should listen to every time they drop a new episode.
1. Locked on Celtics, John Karalis
Locked on Celtics is an everyday podcast hosted by John Karalis, a former professional basketball player and journalist for Boston Sports Journal. He gives insight to the game and does a really great job of explaining to understand.
Karalis has a new episode available every morning and is usually joined by Tom Westerholm, another great Celtics journalist for MassLive.
Karalis is the only person covering the Celtics that has a daily podcast. It has to be your “first listen” even in the offseason.
2. The Garden Report, CLNS Media
The Garden Report is elite and I’d have it at No. 1 if they were an everyday podcast. There isn’t another place where you get live reactions from players and coaches directly after games.
Led by media veteran John Zannis and his co-host Jimmy Toscano, The Garden Report offers immediate insight and reaction right after a game that you won’t get anywhere else.
The credentialed squad consists of a trio of writers in the phenomenal Bobby Manning, Josue Pavon, and A. Sherrod Blakely, who are in the locker rooms and press conferences after games.
CLNS is unmatched when it comes to the Celtics.
3. Anything is Poddable, The Athletic
Anything is Poddable is a podcast for the fans, as it’s hosted by two fans of the team themselves in Celtics writer Jay King and Sam Packard.
The energy is always in the right place and it’s an honest assessment usually in the moments after a game, as Jay and Sam are somewhere in the basement of the TD Garden reflecting on the game that was just played.
4. Celtics Talk, NBC Sports
Celtics Talk is awesome because you get a lot of perspectives from a variety of personalities, former players, and media members as it’s hosted by the one and only Chris Forsberg.
Forsberg usually starts with his take on the game and then plays audio of quotes from players and questions from press conferences.
The podcast is oftentimes co hosted by Abby Chin and has also seen Brian Scalabrine, Eddie House, and Kendrick Perkins.
There’s not many people who are as close to the team as Forsberg, so when he has something to say, every Celtics fan should be listening.
5. Off The Pike, The Ringer
Brian Barrett is a superstar. Have you heard of this podcast? If not, I highly suggest taking a listen if you’re a Boston sports fan.
Barrett is elite when it comes to talking about the numbers, X’s and O’s, and breaking down any game in any sport.
This is a must listen for any Boston fan.
6. Boston Celtics Game Day Recap
This podcast is excellent and is perfect for people who weren’t able to catch the end of the game or just missed it entirely.
Hosted by Guy DePlacido, Boston Celtics Game Day Recap offers an almost play-by-play type of experience so you can understand everything that happened on the court for the Celtics, win or lose.
Guy does a really great job of explaining the game and what unfolded from it. This is a must listen for all Celtics fans.
Fun fact: I went to college with Guy, at Nichols College.
7. Winning Plays, CLNS Media
Winning Plays is another great podcast that breaks down recent developments surrounding the team both on and off the court, hosted by Brian Robb, a Celtics beat reporter for MassLive.
This podcast doesn’t so much break down the X’s and O’s when reflecting on a game but he does a great job of explaining in detail so it’s easier to understand what’s happening. Robb likes numbers so stats are often talked about.
Brian Robb oftentimes has Ryan Bernardoni on the show who just really understands and explains the NBA’s salary cap.
8. Celtics Beat, CLNS Media
Celtics Beat is another informative and entertaining podcast that is the longest running Celtics podcast in the market, hosted by Evan Valenti and Adam Kaufman.
They usually always have an NBA verified guest of some sort joining them to talk about the Celtics and sometimes other topics floating around the NBA.
Celtics Beat offers a genuinely fair perspective of the team. It’s definitely a must listen due to the quality and quantity of their guests.
9. Bleav in Celtics, Bleav
Bleav is a great podcast, hosted by Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe and his co-host Warren Shaw.
Washburn gives a unique perspective as he’s in the locker room and at every single game, home or away. He’s extremely close to the Celtics and when he says something you should listen.
10. View From The Rafters, iHeart
The View From The Rafters podcast is an inside view of the Celtics, created by the Celtics and hosted by some of the people who are the closest to the team in Marc D’Amico, Abby Chin, and Sean Grande.
This podcast is designed to give a behind the scenes experience of the Celtics each season.
There’s obviously a boatload of Celtics podcasts on the market that I also listen to daily or when there’s a new episode available:
First To The Floor, Celtics Lab, Causeway Street, The A-List, Celtics Collective, How ‘Bout Them Celtics, Cedric Maxwell Podcast, Celtics Corner.
Sometimes I enjoy hearing older content during the offseasons and NBC Sports Boston has a couple of great podcasts from the early 2010’s about the ‘86 Celtics and another all about older Celtics history called Into The Archives.
