The Boston Celtics are fully prepared to offer their superstar Jaylen Brown a well-earned $295 million supermax contract.
It’s fair to say Boston had other things to take care of, like parting ways with Marcus Smart and Grant Williams to add Kristaps Porzingis and second round draft picks for the future.
It was reported that Brown and the Celtics would be working on this during Summer League in Las Vegas, which started on Friday for Boston.
Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe says both sides have “other matters” to handle first in regards to contract negotiations:
“But the Celtics are not shopping their All-NBA forward. They do not intend to make a low-ball offer to him. There have just been other matters for Jaylen Brown’s camp and the Celtics to handle first. Sure, there will be some negotiations regarding incentives, but league sources continue to insist that Brown and the Celtics will eventually agree on a super-max deal. Sources said the sides are expected to talk during the Las Vegas summer league, which begins Friday.”
Brown isn’t a stranger to having incentives in his contracts. Just last year he earned $3.1 million for playing in at least 65 games, All-Star, an All-NBA team, and the Celtics advancing deep into the playoffs.
Brown has one-year left on his contract worth $28.5 million and will become an unrestricted free agent next summer if the Celtics don’t extend him.
