Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Dean Wade is a player that Brad Stevens should target for Celtics

The Boston Celtics have a $6.2 million TPE in their back pocket after trading Grant Williams, which is worth more than the $5 million taxpayer midlevel and would avoid falling into the second tax apron of the new CBA.

It’s worth mentioning that Boston’s best option to add to their team is through trades and utilizing this TPE more than anything considering they’re only able to offer minimum salary to free agents at this point if remaining under the second apron is so important to them.

A player that comes to mind is power forward Dean Wade of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Wade is 26-years-old and has been with Cleveland for the first four years of his career. He’s a 6-foot-9 shooter that can defend, which seems to be what the Celtics are searching for this offseason to add to bolster their forward positions.

In four years, Wade has 60 starts in 170 games for the Cavs, averaging 43.9 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from behind the arc for his career. He primarily plays both forward positions but there’s numbers to show he plays the five from time-to-time as well.

Wade seems like a player that falls in line with what Brad Stevens said he’s looking to add to the wing position this offseason during an in-game interview during Boston’s third Summer League game.

“We’ll try to add obviously a little bit. I’d like to get a little more depth, maybe on the wing, and then also maybe with a four/three type. I feel pretty good about our bigs. We’ve got a couple two-ways, so we’ve got some things we’re still very much looking at.”

Wade is a player that can come in and be impactful for this team. He’s known for shooting but he’s also great on defense. Here’s what current teammate Evan Mobley said about Wade in January.

“He is just a versatile player for our system. He can guard different positions. He can shoot the ball and spot up, so he makes the floor more open. He’s like a Swiss Army knife.”

Wade is the type of player that Stevens is looking to add this offseason. With Cleveland becoming a bit jam packed at the position after adding Max Strus and Georges Niang this summer, perhaps they’d be interested in moving on from Wade.
