The Boston Celtics have 18 total players on their roster, two of whom are on two-way contracts in JD Davison and Jay Scrubb while another is on a partially guaranteed deal in Dalano Banton and a non-guaranteed contract in Justin Champagnie.
After Jaylen Brown signed the largest deal in NBA history last week, it had me thinking what the rest of the team’s contracts look like and if there are any incentives in any of the player’s contracts for this upcoming season.
There are only three players who have incentives in their contracts for this upcoming season: Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Robert Williams.
Derrick White: $1,250,000
White has incentives for games played (70), total made 3-pointers (185), and if he makes an All-NBA Defensive Team for the 2023-24 season. He hit on these similar incentives last season and earned an additional $1.25 million as a result.
Based on White’s track record, it’s fair to say he’ll hit again on the incentives for total games played and possibly even the other two if he continues to play the high level of defense he did last year and improve his 3-point shooting, which he shot 38.1 percent from deep last season.
Spotrac believes White will earn an additional $750,000 for playing more than 70 games and get his second consecutive All-Defense recognition.
Rob Williams: $1,446,432
Rob has incentives for games played (69), making an All-NBA Defensive Team, and if Boston lands in the conference semifinals and/or the conference finals.
Rob played in 61 games during the 2021-22 regular season, marking the most of his five-year career.
Spotrac doesn’t believe that Rob will hit any of his incentives.
Jaylen Brown: $3,321,428
Brown has one more year remaining on his current contract before his sueprmax extension kicks in for the 2024-25 season, which does include one more year of incentives for the 2023-24 season.
His contract includes incentives for games played (65), making All-NBA, and if the Celtics land in the second round of the playoffs, conference finals, and the Finals.
Spotrac believes Brown will hit the full amount of this incentive.
