Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce shared that Jaylen Brown’s off-court goals and aspirations were both important and attractive to Boston’s front office, which we heard during Brown’s press conference at the MIT Media Lab with his Bridge program.
“I’m happy for him. Jaylen is a smart guy and his value to the city goes beyond basketball. You can tell from what he’s said. I think the Celtics looked at all of that. When you invest that much in somebody, it usually is something that can go beyond basketball. His influence, who he is as a person, you take that all into account. So you have to feel good giving it to somebody, and I know they feel good because of his influence, not only on the court, but off the court.”
A few days before signing the supermax deal, Brown unveiled a brand new basketball court to the Fenelon Street playground in Dorchester that he redesigned for the community.
Brown is now the longest tenured player on the Celtics as he heads into his eighth season in Boston and there’s got to be a sense of self pride that comes along with that.
