Boston Celtics fan and Maine native Cooper Flagg is a 16-year-old generational talent who currently plays for Montverde Academy and is the 2022 USA Male Athlete of the Year.
Flagg has been training with former Celtics champion Brian Scalabrine who has been the first person to have Flagg on his radar dating back to at least three years ago.
Scalabrine has the basketball prodigy stay at his house in the summer to train and workout with him, saying that Flagg is an NBA player.
“I think he’s an NBA player, he has NBA feel. I don’t know how good of an NBA player he’ll be, but he’s pretty special, man. I just think the kid is special… I think he is a generational talent.”
In an interview with the Starting Lineup show, Scalabrine said he heard about a situation at Jayson Tatum’s basketball camp between Flagg and Bradley Beal.
“I heard a rumor that my boy Cooper Flagg was at Jayson Tatum’s camp and he was busting Brad Beal 1-on-1, and Brad Beal got mad at him. Started cussing him out… So I guess the rumor is that Brad Beal and him were squaring off 1-on-1 and Brad Beal was taking it lightly. It’s a high school kid. Then Cooper started giving it to him. And I guess the rumor is, Cooper started talking trash and Bradley Beal got mad. Really mad.”
That rumor by Scalabrine is in fact false, as Flagg cleared the air on the alleged situation.
“I’m making enemies. First Brad Beal… that was fake though. I need to point that out to the mic: that was fake… fake business. Me and Brad Beal never played 1-on-1. I got no beef with Brad, alright. I want to make that known real quick.”
Perhaps Scal was just trying to pump up Flagg as he’s set to debut at Montverde Academy this year. Scal also shares that Reaal Madrid is “really interested” in signing Flagg but that he hasn’t considered the offer.
Regardless of Scalabrine stirring the pot for whatever reason, Flagg is legit on the court and has already received offers from Duke, UCLA, Michigan, West Virginia, and Iowa.
