The Celtics turned the NBA landscape upside down when they traded their longest tenured player in Marcus Smart to a three-team deal that landed him in Memphis and Kristaps Porzingis in Boston.
Adding an elite level talent to a team with two All-NBA players already in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown really propels the Celtics as the favorites in the Eastern Conference.
In 2022-23, Porzingis averaged 23.2 points per game on 49.8 percent shooting from the field and 38.5 percent from behind the arc in 65 games.
NBA YouTube content creator ThreeCone says the Celtics have built one of the best teams in their conference and are right up there with the Denver Nuggets for the best team in the league.
“However as I look at this team right now and the roster that they’ve built, the high end talent, the great role players, the new edition of Kristaps Porzingis… to me, the Celtics are pretty clearly the best team in the Eastern Conference. Incredibly well constructed and I think they’re right up there with the Denver Nuggets in the conversation for the best team in the entire league.”
With the addition of Porzingis, Cone explains that how he expects Tatum to win the MVP this season.
“I fully expect him [Tatum] to come into this next season better than he was, especially when you look at the talent around him, I think this is a roster that’s very well optimized to help Tatum be successful and be the best version of himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tatum was the MVP this upcoming season.”
He also gets into how the addition of Porzingis gives Boston a strong defensive front court next to Al Horford and Rob Williams, making it one of the best in the NBA.
This was a great listen and to hear an outside perspective of what the Celtics are being perceived like around the league, as Cone is an OKC fan.
