Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Celtics announce Jay Scrubb is out indefinitely with torn ACL

The Boston Celtics announced that Jay Scrubb tore his right ACL during practice on Saturday and is out indefinitely, the team made public moments prior to tip-off to Boston’s first preseason game on Sunday evening.

Scrubb was a summer standout which earned him a two-way contract with the Celtics. He averaged 14.4 points, 1.4 assists, and 3.6 rebounds on 46.3 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc in five games during Summer League.

He showcased himself as a three-level scorer and had looked to be in line for an in-season promotion similar to Sam Hauser in the 2021-22 season when Boston converted his two-way deal into a standard contract.

The Celtics used all three of their two-way contract signings, which the NBA just increased from two to three. In doing so, JD Davison was the first player signed to a two-way deal this summer, followed by Scrubb, and Neemias Queta.

It’s still unknown what GM Brad Stevens and the Celtics will do with this situation, but if they decide to waive Scrubb, Boston will be able to add another player to a two-way contract.
