The Boston Celtics made some major alterations to their roster during the offseason, one of which sent out Marcus Smart to bring in Kristaps Porzinigis. It was a challenging decision for everyone involved from the front office, through the entire team, and of course the fans and the city of Boston.
It wasn’t until Sunday evening at the TD Garden that everyone saw the vision that GM Brad Stevens had when he pulled the trigger on making this deal. Although it was only the first preseason game of the year, it wasn’t hard to see the potential of what this team transforms into just by having Porzingis on the court with them.
Porzingis held a smile while he was introduced for the first time in front of the Celtics faithful that filled the TD Garden despite it being a preseason game. It didn’t take long for Porzinigis to put on a show for his new fans.
After winning the opening tipoff, Porzingis hit the first shot of the game which was a 3-pointer off a pass from Jayson Tatum. The fans went wild and he definitely felt their embrace.
“That was insane for a preseason game… I don’t know what to say. Fun game to play in. Fun game to watch and the end when Payton was going off the whole crowd was into it… I’m very happy to be a Celtic, I’m not going to lie.”
Porzingis is going to be the difference maker or curveball as head coach Joe Mazzulla has said throughout the offseason since acquiring him.
It’s fair to say Porzingis feels the love from the fans and it’s a the feelings are mutual.
