Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Jayson Tatum and Sam Cassell have new practice routine

When the Boston Celtics hired longtime coach Sam Cassell to join head coach Joe Mazzulla’s staff, it was unknown who he was going to be working with the most.

It seemed obvious for Cassell to work with the guards as he won three championships in the NBA as a guard. He also visited Derrick White and his trainer over the summer to work on running the offense.

However, in a recent interview with Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston, Jayson Tatum said that Cassell is his new position coach this season and that’s how he got involved with Paul Pierce over the summer.

Over the last few practices, we’ve seen Tatum and Cassell working in the post on backdowns and scoring from that area/situation.

Tatum has added 12 lbs of muscle to his frame this offseason and is expecting to get into the paint more often this season.

Working with Cassell everyday will help him in this regard.
