Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Celtics look to extend their winning streak vs Timberwolves

The Boston Celtics (5-0) are the only undefeated team remaining in the NBA and look to add to their winning streak against the Minnesota Timberwolves (3-2) on Monday night.

The Celtics are averaging 17.2 more points per game than the middle of the pack Timberwolves this season, who are coming off a two-game winning streak of which resulted in blowout victories.

This game will be the first real test for the undefeated Celtics who have only started their double-big lineup once this season and it was in their last game due to Derrick White being out with personal reasons.

It’ll be interesting to see what head coach Joe Mazzulla does with his starting lineup against the Timberwolves who start a towering duo of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert, making it an intriguing option to start a double-big as well with Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford.

This matchup will arguably be the biggest test of the season so far for Porzingis who has been dominant all over the court, averaging 60.4 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from behind the arc this season. But he hasn’t had to deal with a front-court force that Minnesota offers, not to mention another versatile big in Naz Reid that’s featured in the second unit.

It’s worth mentioning that the Timberwolves have a four-headed monster lineup that sees Anthony Edwards (26.2 PPG) and Mike Conley (4.6 APG) running next to Towns and Gobert in their starting lineup, making this once again a great test for the Celtics.

However, it’s fair to say that there aren’t many teams in the league that can match strength-for-strength against the Celtics starting lineup or their top-six. And with the way head coach Joe Mazzulla is rotating players and staggering lineups always leaves Boston as the superior team on the floor.

Don’t be surprised if Mazzulla does start the double-big to match the lineup of Towns and Gobert. This would likely move Jrue Holiday to the bench, in my opinion.

The Celtics will be in Minnesota on Monday night at the Target Center for an 8:00 PM tipoff against the Timberwolves. This will be Boston’s second game of a three-game road trip.
