Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics at the top of the NBA Power Rankings

The Boston Celtics (11-2) have won six consecutive games and are the only team in the NBA with multiple winning streaks of at least five games and were the first team to reach 10 wins this season.

It was Boston’s offense that was overpowering to begin the season but their defense is now the No. 1 defense in the league. As John Schumann noted, the Celtics are the only team that ranks in the top-five in three of the top statistical categories on the defensive end of the floor: opponent effective field goal percentage, opponent free throw rate, and defensive rebounding percentage.

The Celtics’ top ranked defense is also the top clutch defense in the NBA having only allowed 48-points on 55 possessions. Teams have only shot 5-for-19 on clutch 3-pointers and 7-of-14 on clutch free throws.

This current road trip saw some ups and downs for Boston in Toronto and Memphis but the Celtics were still able to walk out of those arenas with victories. It’s worth mentioning that the C’s started the week with double-digit victories over the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers, which propelled Boston into first place in the Eastern Conference.

Boston plays in Charlotte tonight on the second night of a back-to-back before heading back home to play the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday at the TD Garden.
