The Boston Celtics are sitting comfortably at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 12-3 record, looking like the most complete team in the NBA after a roster shakeup during the offseason.
General manager Brad Stevens strategically left an open roster spot for the purposes of potentially adding a player some time down the road but only after he was able to see what his new and improved team look like on the court.
Although 15-games into the season might still be a small sample size to determine what a team needs for a championship pursuit, Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus suggests the Celtics should sign free agent wing Justise Winslow. He is a 27-year-old 6-foot-6 wing who is currently with the Raptors 905 in the G League after spending the 2022-23 season with the Portland Trailblazers.
The overview of Pincus’ reasons for Boston to target Winslow is to help with playmaking. He believes that Winslow is a playmaking defender and can bring similar qualities to the Celtics that they lost in Marcus Smart and Malcolm Brogdon.
Winslow has played the two guard and both forward positions during his career and can defend one through five. He would add a little more versatility to Boston’s bench and depth overall.
He currently has an ankle injury but is targeting to make his return to the court in December, as he told Amit Mann of Yahoo Canada Sports.
It’s worth mentioning, Heavy’s Sean Deveney also linked Winslow to Boston during the 2022 offseason.
Winslow, the former No. 10 overall draft pick in 2015, last played in the NBA for the Trailblazers. In 29 games, he averaged 6.8 points and 3.4 assists per game. He is determined to make it back in to the NBA using the Raptors 905 as his bridge.
