The Boston Celtics have been intrigued with Jordan Walsh prior to drafting him, dating back to their pre-draft workouts earlier in the summer.
Walsh was drafted after a one-and-done year at Arkansas at 19-years-old. He was advertised as a defensive wing with some versatility, but he’s shown to be great offensively and Celtics GM Brad Stevens acknowledged that during a pre-draft workout.
The Celtics signed Walsh to a four-year, $7.6 million contract. Most second-round rookies end up on a two-way contract to sharpen their tools in the G League. But Boston views Walsh as a player who can help the team during his rookie year, which is why he got the contract and roster designation he has.
Walsh is currently averaging 15.0 points per game on 41.8 percent shooting from the field and is grabbing 6.2 rebounds, and making 2.3 assists per game on assignment for the Maine Celtics this season.
Boston starts a seven-game homestretch today and it seems like a great opportunity to bring Walsh back down to the team, which they’ve done.
