Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Kristaps Porzingis likely not with Celtics for IST quarterfinals in Indiana

The Boston Celtics advanced in the NBA In-Season Tournament and will play the Indiana Pacers in the quarterfinals on Monday. A win will send Boston to Las Vegas for a chance to win the first ever NBA Cup in what is the inaugural season of the tournament.

Boston’s star center Kristaps Porzingis has been dealing with a left calf strain which has forced him to miss the last few games. He reported last week that he’d be back on the court sooner than later in a photo posted to his social media of him going into the cooling rehab tub at the Celtics facility.

As recent as yesterday, Porzingis posted on his Instagram that he was in Latvia. I could be wrong, but I don’t think he’s going to Latvia for a one day trip. I have to assume that he won’t be with the team in Indiana on Monday and he’s still not ready to play.

When asked about Porzingis during Friday’s media session, head coach Joe Mazzulla said that Porzingis hasn’t practiced with the team but that he’s doing his own on-court sessions and working towards returning to the team.

“He didn’t practice yesterday but he got on the court before practice… We’ll just continue to take it day-by-day and see how he feels.”

After hearing Mazzulla say Porzingis is on a day-to-day based on how he feels, and then seeing Porzingis land in Latvia for the weekend, it’s just hard to believe he’ll be ready to play on Monday in Indiana.
