The WNBA is slowly making its way to Boston as the CT Sun will play a game at the TD Garden in August next summer.
The Sun finished 27-13 last season and lost in the semifinals. Connecticut is a top team in the WNBA and has made the playoffs in each of the last seven seasons.
Alyssa Thomas is the best player in the WNBA (in my opinion) and will be playing at the TD Garden, home of Jayson Tatum, an ascending MVP candidate on his side of the league. It’ll be a treat to see her play at the Garden.
There’s been rumors of the WNBA expanding and having a team created in Boston. Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck said he’s always been open to the idea of having a WNBA team but not owning the TD Garden makes it more of a challenge:
“Stay tuned, but I’m not sure. I’ve heard some rumblings… I’ve been open to it all along, except that it just doesn’t work out as well if you don’t own the building.”
The WNBA already announced San Francisco will be awarded an expansion team for the 2025 season. Perhaps the next expansion team could be in Boston.
