Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Celtics starting five to take the court for first time in three weeks

The Boston Celtics haven’t had their starting-five on the court together since Nov. 24, marking the last game Kristaps Porzingis played in before sustaining a left calf strain. Porzingis is eyeing to make his return to the court on Friday, which will be three weeks since his last game against the Orlando Magic a few days before Thanksgiving.

The Celtics starting lineup played 133-minutes through their first 10-games and were a +122 during that span. Unfortunately, they’ve only played 58-minutes in three appearances since then, most of which has been due to health, although Jayson Tatum is the only starter to play in every game this season so far for Boston.

The starters have played a total of 191-minutes on the court together, producing a +27.7 points per 100, +11.9 field goal attempts per 100, and +8.5 assists per 100. This is Boston’s most utilized lineup and has shown to overwhelm the opposition in many games. According to Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston, the Celtics are 10-1 when their starters are healthy.

Health is the only thing standing in the way of the Celtics winning a championship this season. It’s pretty evident through the first 20-games that health is going to be key for this team.

It’s also worth mentioning that Shams Charania of Stadium reported that the Celtics will likely be active at the trade deadline to strengthen their bench.

In all, it’s going to be great to see Boston run their starting five on Friday night at the TD Garden for the first time in three weeks.
