It was midway through the fourth quarter when Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown was issued two technical fouls and ejected from the game for the first time in his career.
The first technical came after what appeared to be an early whistle on Brown defending Isaiah Quickley after a small amount of contact was made in the process. Brown was more so upset because the same call wasn’t made on the other end in Boston’s favor.
The second technical still seems unclear. Although Brown needed to be restrained at one moment, the second technical and ejection happened when Brown was on the bench. And it’s also worth mentioning that the officials couldn’t hear anything Brown may have said leading up to this one because, again, he was on the bench.
After the game, Brown made some choice comments for the specific official who he felt targeted by (Jason Goldenberg), saying he always thought his first career ejection wouldn’t be at the hands of an “over emotional ref who had a bad day.”
Head coach Joe Mazzulla wasn’t too pleased with the way the officials handled this situation. Mazzulla kept his comments to a minimum to avoid earning a $25,000 fine of his own.
It’s worth mentioning that Brown’s ejection is exactly one week after Jayson Tatum was ejected, also at the TD Garden.
The Celtics were able to win both games with their stars being ejected from the games. There does seem to be an early whistle for Brown and Tatum lately.
