Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Joe Mazzulla is finally seeing his team play Celtics basketball

Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla is finally starting to see his team play the brand of basketball that he wants. From the standpoint of team identity, toughness, and defense, the players have put it all together and this is what Celtics basketball is in the eyes of Mazzulla.

On Sunday afternoon, there was a moment in the game after Jaylen Brown connected on a 3-pointer and a timeout was called, the crowd at the TD Garden was rocking and Mazzulla joined them by being just as pumped up by the play on the court.

After the game, Mazzulla talked about being in the moment and that it’s a good thing for the team and everyone around to see that side of him sometimes.

“I think the players need to see that sometimes. I do, like everybody else, care about winning, and I do have fun. I just thought it was a moment to show, like, I think we’re starting to play what I would call Celtic basketball – from a mentality standpoint, from a toughness standpoint, from a defensive standpoint, and identity, reflecting what it means to play like the Celtics. I think this week we’ve shown that, and I think the crowd has helped that, and I think our players really working to execute and buying in have helped that.”

Mazzulla also has improved the way he wants to utilize his challenges, as he won another call on Sunday to improve his record to 31-12 as a head coach. He does a great job of explaining what goes into making the decision to make a challenge.

The Celtics are the first team to 20 wins and are the only undefeated team on their home court this season. From top to bottom, the entire team seems more comfortable and understands how the system of their team works.
