The Boston Celtics are interested in adding to their roster at the deadline. GM Brad Stevens would like to add a big wing, suggesting that it could come from within the organization, but he’s not against spending to add, which he still has the green light to do so.
If the Celtics add from within, it’s likely there’ll be a minutes increase for Oshae Brissett and Lamar Stevens. It’s also worth mentioning that rookie Jordan Walsh is ONLY on assignment in Maine and is part of Boston’s 15-man roster.
Jake Fischer of YahooSports recently reported that the Celtics have been interested in Chris Boucher, the versatile big wing for the Toronto Raptors, for a while now.
Although Boucher would be a great addition to this team, his $11.75 million contract is far too rich to use the $6.2 million TPE, which means the Celtics will have to give up some value on their end and Stevens seems hesitant to do so.
The only players making significant value in Boston to potentially use in a trade outside of the top-five would be Al Horford ($10 million) and Payton Pritchard ($4 million). And if Boucher is incoming, then the services of Luke Kornet will become limited or even unneeded.
Boucher seems to be the type of player that Stevens wants to add. He’s logged 19 percent of his minutes as a small forward, 59 percent as a power forward, and 23 percent as a center.
He’s scoring 6.3 points per game on 46.9 percent shooting from the field in 14.2 minutes off the bench this season.
