Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Brian Windhorst says Jayson Tatum can’t win MVP due to previous struggles

The Boston Celtics have the best team and the best record (44-12) and Jayson Tatum is the best player on the team.

Tatum is averaging 27.1 points on 47.5 percent shooting from the field and 36.6 percent from downtown while adding 8.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and one steal per game.

Tatum has consistently finished atop the NBA and is often in the MVP conversation, however Brian Windhorst believes Tatum’s previous struggles in the 2022 Finals and in last year’s playoffs that he’s suddenly unqualified for the MVP this season.

The thing that the voters need to understand is that the MVP Award is for the 2023-24 regular season and not reflective of the postseason or any previous season for that matter.

So for Windhorst to use the last two seasons in his overall voting decision is disingenuous to the process.

Tatum has finally responded to this notion that he’s ineligible to win MVP and finally shared his stance on the narrative.

The MVP is a regular season award and for the current season at play. If voters have previous years on their mind, that’s not fair for anyone involved and the NBA needs to step in.
