Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Brad Stevens hasn’t ruled out idea of Neemias Queta on the 15-man roster

The Boston Celtics added a pair of players and sent out two others at the trade deadline this past Thursday.

GM Brad Stevens focused on defense during the trade deadline by adding versatile big man Xavier Tillman in a trade with the Grizzlies and versatile guard Jaden Springer in a trade with the 76ers.

The acquisition of Tillman makes it likely that Boston won’t promote Neemias Queta by converting his two-way contract into an NBA deal and adding him to their final roster spot in Boston.

Stevens, however, hasn’t ruled out the idea, he just said that they’re still looking at all of the options and not rushing to fill the remaining roster spot.

The Celtics have used Queta in 22-games this season, but they’ve had him on the bench with Boston for 38-games total, which is getting too close to his 50-game limit per the rules of a two-way contract.

It’s also worth mentioning that the deadline to convert two-way players is March 3. With the All-Star break this month, the Celtics only have 10-games in February, so Queta won’t hit his limit during this month but coincidentally enough he’ll hit it by the deadline date at the start of March.

Queta has a plus-minus of +95 this season. He’s been great and provides a service that Boston doesn’t really have at that position. Promoting Queta is going to be a real debate for Boston over the next few weeks.
