Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

What did the Boston Celtics offer for Andre Drummond?

The Boston Celtics made some additions at the trade deadline, but not before offering Chicago a package for Andre Drummond, league sources told HoopsHype.

The league source said Chicago’s asking price for Drummond was three second round picks, which is what Brooklyn received at the end of the Royce O’Neale three-team trade.

Although Chicago decided to keep Drummond at the deadline, it’s hard to believe that Boston wouldn’t have been able to trade for him if he was really coveted for them considering they traded three total second round picks at the deadline.

In acquiring Xavier Tillman and Jaden Stevens at the trade deadline, the Celtics traded three total second round picks, two to Memphis for Tillman (2027, 2030) along with Lamar Stevens, and one in 2024, a protected draft pick, to Philadelphia for Stevens.

So if the Celtics really thought Drummond was going to help them win a championship, then Brad Stevens would’ve pushed harder to trade for him.

Drummond might be having a pretty great season, but he’s ultimately not what the Celtics were looking for at the deadline.

Brad Stevens made it clear that he wanted to add a “big wing” with versatility on both ends of the court and he got that in Tillman.

The acquisition of Jaden Stevens was a move for the future and one that Brad Stevens thought was too good to pass up on, considering their roster restrictions under the new CBA.

The Celtics also traded Dalano Banton to the Portland Trail Blazers for a protected second round pick.
