Boston Celtics sharpshooter Sam Hauser has proven that he’s a weapon when he’s on the court and the team has finally figured out how to use him to benefit the team to the best of his abilities.
Hauser has connected on 27 3-pointers over his last five-games. He hit 21 of those threes in the span on three games, which is a franchise record for Boston.
It’s worth noting that Hauser had flirted with the franchise record for the most 3-point shots made in a game, which is held by Marcus Smart at 11.
It’s also worth mentioning that Hauser would have likely broken the record in Washington on Mar. 17, but an ankle midway through the third quarter halted the feat. Hauser made 10 3-pointers before leaving the game, one shy of the record.
Hauser once again had a big night shooting from behind the arc, connecting on 7-of-8 from deep in Chicago on Saturday night. He finished the game with 23-points, which was tied for the second team-high with Al Horford and only behind Jayson Tatum, who scored 26-points to lead the team.
During his postgame press conference, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla explained how the team uses Hauser as a weapon through the flow of the game rather than needing to have designed plays run for him.
“The guys have a better understanding of how to use Sam as a weapon— whether it’s to get him open or use him as a decoy for 2-on-1’s. He has an innate ability to balance the floor with spacing but also create indecisions.”
Hauser is 27-of-48 (56.2%) from behind the arc over his last five-games. Opposing teams need to respect Hauser when he’s on the court, but by doing so only leaves another player on the Celtics to be more open, perhaps Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown.
Hauser is a weapon and the Celtics know how to use it best.
