Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics to re-sign Jrue Holiday to keep him for rest of his career

Boston Celtics GM Brad Stevens has always had an affinity for veteran guard Jrue Holiday and he’s thrilled to have landed him in a trade prior to the start of the season.

When introducing Holiday for the first time as a member of the Celtics, Stevens couldn’t keep a smile off his face. In fact, Stevens might still be smiling at the fact that he was able to add Holiday to his team.

Stevens understands what Holiday brings to the table for his team on both ends of the court and it’s hard to believe this will only be a one-and-done year for him in Boston.

Holiday has a player option next season worth $37.4 million that he can opt into. But it’s worth mentioning that the Celtics can extend Holiday after Apr. 1 if both sides are able to come to an agreement.

Holiday has already mentioned multiple times how much he enjoys being part of the Celtics organization and that he and his family are getting more acclimated to Boston and that he’d like to be remain here for a long time.

On a recent episode of the NBA Next Podcast, NBA salary expert Keith Smith explains how Boston will likely restructure Holiday’s contract similarly to how they did Al Horford in 2022 by extending him with more years at a slightly lower salary.

This extension would most likely keep Holiday in Boston for the rest of his career.

It’s worth noting Boston has to be prepared for the upcoming contract extensions for Jayson Tatum and Derrick White, as well. But having Holiday with this group is important for the Celtics moving forward.
