Boston Celtics play-by-play broadcaster Mike Gorman is concluding his 43-year run as the voice of the Celtics at the end of this current season.
Gorman started his Celtics career in 1981 calling games alongside Celtics legend, Tommy Heinsohn. They became the longest-tenured duo in sports broadcasting history; with nearly forty years of calling games together.
Heinsohn spent nine-years playing for the Celtics, averaging 18.6 points and 8.8 rebounds for his career. He won Rookie of the Year, is a six-time All-Star, and has eight rings to his name as a player.
After he retired in 1965, he would eventually become the head coach of the team starting in 1969 and lasting for nine-years. In doing so, he won two more championships as a coach and was the NBA’s coach of the year.
Heinsohn was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a player in 1986 and then again as a coach in 2015. He’s hasn’t been acknowledged by the Hall of Fame as a broadcaster, which Gorman doesn’t understand how that’s possible.
Heinsohn should be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a broadcaster. Gorman was inducted in 2021, he worked next to Heinsohn for close to 40-years, if he believes that Heinsohn is a Hall of Fame broadcaster, then he most likely is and the Hall of Fame needs to make this happen.
