The Boston Celtics started the game on a 14-0 run to open Game 1 of the playoffs at the TD Garden. Brown scored the first five-points of the game, followed by a couple of turnaround jumpers from Kristaps Porzingis, a driving lay-in from Jayson Tatum, and a 3-pointer from Jrue Holiday.
All of this forced Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra to call an early timeout only two minutes into the game, as his team just looked completely lost against this caliber of a Celtics team. The timeout didn’t really help, as Boston finished the first quarter making six 3-pointers and nine assists while Miami made only one 3-pointer and had four assists.
In the second quarter, the Heat’s plan was to leave San Hauser wide open from behind the arc, to which he connected on four 3-pointers in the quarter. Hauser shot 42.4 percent from deep in the regular season as one of the top shooters in the league this year, leaving him open isn’t a great idea.
Boston went on to lead by double figures for the entire second half, with their being lead being 34-points, as Miami was outmatched in regard to talent in this game and in this series moving forward. But the Heat were able to cut the deficit to as low as 15-points late in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to come back in this game.
The obvious difference maker in this game for Boston was the 3-point shooting and the space that Porzingis created on the floor. The Celtics finished 22-of-49 (44.9%) from behind the arc and Porzingis had 18-points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor. Sam Hauser also hit four 3’s in the second quarter to pull the lead apart ahead of halftime.
This was a good win for the Celtics in Game 1 and they should continue this momentum in Game 2.
Game 2 is on Wednesday at 7:00PM in Boston.
