Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Kristaps Porzingis’ Game 1 comment on Bam Adebayo is taken wrong way by Heat

The Celtics took care of business in Game 1 against the Heat, dominating for most of it and tied a franchise record for the most 3-pointers made in a postseason game (22).

Kristaps Porzingis finished with 18-points on 7-of-13 shooting and went 4-of-8 from behind the arc. He also had four rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal in his first playoff game as a Celtic.

During his postgame press conference, Porzingis was asked about the matchup he has with Heat center Bam Adebayo and if he takes it personally.

“No… this is business… I don’t care about him. I care about our team and what we’re trying to achieve. This is not one on one, me against Bam. This is Celtics against Heat… we’ll make sure that’s our focus.”

Hearing his full answer is genuine and doesn’t come off confrontational in the least, but Bam Adebayo was unable to hear this due to not being on social media. However, after Game 2 on Wednesday, he was asked about Porzingis’ comments and he seemed to have taken it the wrong way without any additional context provided.

“No. I’m not on social media. So I don’t hear that noise. It is what it is. He can say what he wants. We’re just going to go out there in between those lines and handle business.”

Adebayo took this as a shots fired from Porzingis, as he sat with a smile while giving his answer to the reporter’s question, likely a bit surprised.

Porzingis didn’t have any bad intentions with what he said. He just wants to focus to be on the Celtics vs Heat, rather than it being on him and Bam. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

The key to success for Boston in this series is to utilize Porzingis as the cheat code that he has been all season for the Celtics; this is why the Celtics traded for him in the first place.
