The Boston Celtics advance to their third straight Eastern Conference Finals appearance and their sixth in the last eight years.
Jaylen Brown will be playing his sixth Eastern Conference Finals while Jayson Tatum will be in his fifth; they’ve been to more conference finals than the Magic, Raptors, Hawks, Nets, Kings, Clippers, and Grizzlies.
After the Game 5 closeout win, Tatum shared that he and Brown have allowed themselves to give the game whatever it needs because they’re capable of doing “everything” on the court.
“We’ve just been in a lot of battles together. Seven years as teammates… he’s been to the Conference Finals six times, this is my fifth time. We’ve been in a lot of crucial moments- regular season and playoff games. Just throughout the years, learning from our experiences. Really getting to a stage where we understand what we can do individually, we know how gifted we are offensively, but each night kind of presents different challenges and being ready and up for the task to do whatever is needed because both of us are capable on the basketball court to do literally everything and each night might call for something different.”
In the semifinals, Tatum averaged 26.8 points on 44/27/95 shooting splits, 10.8 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game to lead the Celtics in those statistical categories. He also had 1.6 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.
Brown averaged 23.4 points on 59.2 percent shooting, grabbed 6.2 rebounds, and made 2.8 assists per game. He was oftentimes the best player on the court in this series and throughout Boston’s playoff run.
Tatum said it best: together they’ll give the game whatever is needed because they can do everything on the court.
Boston awaits their Conference Finals opponent between the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks.
