Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Joe Mazzulla shares Kristaps Porzingis update for first time

The Boston Celtics have been without big man Kristaps Porzingis for six-games, including an entire Semifinals series and they’ll continue to be without him for the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals, reported by Adrian Wojnarowski.

Last week, Porzingis went to practice for the first time since the injury in Game 4 of the first round against the Miami Heat. He only worked alone, doing stationary shooting on and off one foot.

Since then, Porzingis’ workouts have ramped up to where he was doing light contact against coaches in the post and working on putting up shots after contact in that area.

Since the injury, head coach Joe Mazzulla has been vague and brief when it comes to sharing information about Porzingis during this injury period.

At practice on Sunday, however, Mazzulla did share a little bit about Porzingis’ mindset as he continues to work hard to get back to the court for Boston.

“Great place. He’s working hard every single day to make as fast as a recovery as he can. So he’s there for everything and it can’t go underestimated how hard he works, trying to come back in a timely fashion.”

It’s great to hear Mazzulla talk about Porzingis again. Perhaps he wanted to keep the cards close to his chest to not give the opposition an opportunity to game plan by leaving his status unknown.

It would be ideal to see Porzingis return during the Conference Finals to get him ready for a Finals run as he returns from a lengthy injury.
