As Jaylen Brown is leading the Boston Celtics through the playoffs and only need one more win to make it back to the NBA Finals for the second time in three years, his name continues to get slandered by NBA media.
Stephen A. Smith recently said on ESPN’s First Take, the very obnoxious talk show that he is the executive producer on, that Brown doesn’t have to carry the load of the team the way other superstars do because the Celtics have a good team around him.
Two days later, Smith returned to the air with fake news to share from a “source” that Smith has that is apparently close to Brown, saying that Brown isn’t marketable around the NBA because of his attitude.
As a true journalist, and I use that term loosely when it comes to Smith, he won’t reveal who his source is, not to NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas or to Jaylen Brown himself when they both asked for it.
Thomas has been a mentor for Brown dating back to his year at UCAL Berkeley before being drafted by the Celtics in 2016. He told Smith to reveal the source or don’t say anything at all.
Believe it or not, Smith somehow took offense to this, as if he’s innocent here.
Brown usually doesn’t get involved with the drama created by these talking heads on ESPN or social media, but when it’s something said that can impact his career, reputation, and his legacy, Brown is going to speak up on it, which he did here.
Brown has inked deals with Adidas, Beats by Dre, Pepsi, and UnderArmour throughout his career. To say that he’s not marketable is just not true, at all.
I don’t know what Stephen A. Smith is trying to do with this stunt, but he’s only digging the hole of this lie bigger and soon enough he’ll be unable to get out of it.
The Celtics are one win away from returning to the NBA Finals, this type of distraction isn’t needed.
