Jaylen Brown has looked unstoppable during the playoffs for the Celtics. He’s averaging 24.8 points on 54.3 percent shooting from the field while making 62.2 percent of his 2-point shots.
The Eastern Conference Finals MVP continued his hot streak in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, as Brown finished with a team-high 22-points, six rebounds, and two assists.
He also picked up the defensive assignments of Luka Dončić, guarding him from full court at times, while also coming up with three steals and three blocks.
During team media availability on Saturday, Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said that Brown is the best player on the Celtics and they’ll need to be more physical with him to try to limit him.
“Well Jaylen’s their best player. So looking at what he does defensively, he picked up Luka full court, he got to the free throw line… he did everything and that’s what your best player does.”
Brown has looked like the best player on the court throughout the playoffs and oftentimes on the Celtics. He plays both ends of the court and is in a mindset right now where he won’t allow his team to lose.
He is the alpha of this team and he’s delivering on that as the longest tenured player on the team and it suits him well.
It’s a great compliment from Kidd, who’s considered to be one of the greatest point guards of all-time, but Brown didn’t care for it too much. He wants to remained focus on the next game and the same for his team.
Jrue Holidaybwas asked about Kidd’s comment while on a radio spot and he agreed with him, saying that he’s been aggressive in every way and is guarding the best player on the opposing team.
Kidd could be trying to play mind-games this early in the series, but the Celtics aren’t falling for it.
Game 2 of the NBA Finals is on Sunday night at 8:00PM from the TD Garden.
