The Boston Celtics are currently up in the NBA Finals three games to none against the Dallas Mavericks. Boston has held Dallas under 100-points in all three games of the Finals and are winning games in different ways.
In Game 1, Kristaps Porzingis ignited the team off the bench with 20-points and six rebounds in 21-minutes. It was his first game back from injury in 38 days, lasting two complete playoff series. Porzingis’ performance after not playing for a while brought much ease to the team and their fans.
In Game 2, Jrue Holiday led the team with 26-points and 11-rebounds while Derrick White added 18-points, five rebounds, and two blocks with one of them being a game-sealing Chase-down block on PJ Washington. White also hit 4-of-10 from behind the arc.
In Game 3, it was the vintage Jay game from Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown that proved to be too much for the Mavericks to overcome as Boston took a seven-point victory. Brown (30) and Tatum (31) combined for 61-points on 23-of-48 shooting, 14 rebounds, and 13 assists while both of them took on challenges on the defensive end.
There’s been other contributors to Boston’s 3-0 lead along the entire roster: Payton Pritchard hit a buzzer-beater at the end of the third quarter in Game 2. Sam Hauser finally made some threes in Game 3. Xavier Tillman played 11 tough minutes and made a big 3-pointer in the corner.
Al Horford has been everything for the Celtics throughout the playoffs while picking up his workload with Porzingis missing a majority of the playoffs. At 38-years-old, it would become a dream come true for Horford to win his first NBA championship to go along with the two he won in college.
The one element of Boston’s game that hasn’t wavered at all is their team defense. Boston’s held Dallas to under 100-points in every game and have flustered them with their incredible switching, clogging passing lanes, and pulling the centers away from the basket.
Boston has completely flustered Dallas as Luka Dončić fouled out of Game 3 and hasn’t smiled in a long time, which is rare for him.
Joe Mazzulla is coaching his ass off and deserves to be recognized for it.
Lastly, Brown has been truly amazing in every game of the Finals. He has my vote for Finals MVP.
Game 4 is tonight in Dallas where Boston can sweep this series away for the first time since 1959.
