Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Derrick White high potential for Team USA replacement

Boston Celtics back-to-back All-NBA defender Derrick White could potentially be heading to Paris this summer with Team USA and his own teammates Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday.

White averaged career highs across the board this season with 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game with 46/40/90 shooting splits in 73 games during the regular season.

He continued in the playoffs, averaging 16.9 points per game on 46/40/92 shooting splits in 18 games. White’s been one of the Celtics most important players this season and it continued in the playoffs.

Prior to Game 4 in Dallas, Adrian Wojnarowski shared during pregame that White could be a potential replacement as a “real potential candidate for Team USA” if Kawhi Leonard is unable to participate.

It’s worth mentioning that Leonard tore his meniscus last year in the playoffs. He played 68 games in the regular season but was only available for two games in the playoffs for the Clippers.

White was on the 2019 FIBA Team USA roster when he was still with the San Antonio Spurs that included Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, and Kemba Walker.

This would be the cherry on top of the sundae of an incredible season for White.
