Oshae Brissett was the first player the Boston Celtics signed in free agency last summer and now he’s the first player to be on the move this summer, as it’s been reported that he will opt out of his $2.46 million player option for the 2024-25 season in Boston.
Brissett will become an unrestricted free agent and test the market one year after winning an NBA championship. He averaged 3.7 points on 44.4 percent shooting overall and 2.9 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game in 2023-24.
There’s likely a team around the league that’ll give Brissett a larger contract than the one of his players-option offered in Boston. Next for Brissett, though, is playing in the Olympics for Canada while betting on himself in the open market for 2024-25.
Brissett can command the minimum, which is $2,620,788 for six-years of league service, per Spotrac, but he should be able to pull in more than that as a veteran free agent with skills to add to a team.
For the Celtics, they like what they saw from rookie Jordan Walsh, and he’ll be a candidate to compete for a legitimate role and add depth to the wing position for Boston next season.
It’s worth mentioning that the Celtics will be limited in certain ways when it comes to roster building as a second apron team. So being able to land on young players like Walsh and make things work with them is going to be important for Boston moving forward.
The NBA Draft is this week and the Celtics are preparing for making a selection with the 30th overall pick.
