Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Celtics Files: Brown, White, Queta, Scheierman, Other Notes & Takeaways

For someone who makes quiet moves, Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has been all over the headlines since Boston won the Finals and he was named MVP.

Brown expressed frustration with Team USA’s selection process after Kawhi Leonard left the team and Derrick White was the replacement for him.

The way Brown handled it wasn’t the best, as it looked like he wasn’t being supportive of his teammate in White, who was already named a replacement for Leonard weeks ago by Team USA.

On Monday during Boston’s second Summer League game against the Lakers, Brown made a comment while sitting courtside with Kysre Gondrezick and Angel Reese, on Bronny James not being ready for the NBA.

Brown cleared the air on both the comments he made regarding White, saying it’s mostly all about Nike, and with James on Twitter.

Here are other notes and takeaways from the Celtics:

  • Neemias Queta is getting acclimated with the defensive system, as Summer League head coach DJ MacLeay said during after Monday’s game. With Kristaps Porzingis to miss the first two months of the season while recovering from surgery, Queta has the opportunity to get on the court in the beginning of the season for Boston.
  • Baylor Scheierman still made an impact on the game despite not shooting well (1-of-6 FG). He made three assists and had four rebounds while also diving into the stands trying to save the ball and make a play.
  • Jaden Springer is likely being shutdown for the remainder of the Summer League after he scored 23-points on 8-of-15 FG in Boston’s first game of the summer against the Heat. He also grabbed two rebounds and made six assists.
  • JD Davison re-signed on another two-way deal. He’s improved his 3-point shooting more than anything this offseason and it shows: 9-of-16 FG, 5-of-8 3PT (2 games).
  • Jayson Tatum started for Team USA against Australia. He finished with seven points, five assists, and four rebounds in 21 minutes. Jrue Holiday scored five points and had four assists off the bench. Derrick White didn’t play.
  • Kristaps Porzingis recovering well on a beach.
  • Ron Harper Jr. signed an Exhibit-10 deal with Boston.

The Celtics play again on Wednesday against the Hornets, a new and improved team led by Charles Lee, Boston’s former assistant.
