The Boston Celtics have covered headlines all throughout the offseason after winning their 18th championship. With the upcoming sale of the team, GM Brad Stevens has run business as usual, re-signing many players from last year’s team while preparing for the season ahead.
Considering the structure of the second apron, the Celtics didn’t have many options to retool their team, as they were only able to re-sign their own players and make new additions at a minimum level this offseason. This resulted in them bringing back 13 of 15 players from last year’s team.
Although the Celtics don’t have a new owner in place yet, it hasn’t changed the way Stevens is doing business and head coach Joe Mazzulla runs the team. The team held a set of workouts this past week, which saw many of the reserve players on the practice courts.
Speaking of Mazzulla, he went to the Rhode Island State House on Tuesday morning, with the Larry O’Brien Trophy, to be honored by the state that he’s native to. State Governor Dan McKee put together the event and announced it on his Twitter. Mazzulla attended with Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca.
Here are other news and notes from Celtics this past week:
- Jaylen Brown went camping in the Dubai desert.
- Jayson Tatum dropped 3rd edition of his shoes.
- Joe Mazzulla brought the Larry O’Brien Trophy to his Alma mater Bishop Hendricken and to his hometown of Johnston, Rhode Island on Tuesday.
- Isaiah Thomas shared that the love between him and the city of Boston is real and genuine.
- Lonnie Walker signed Exhibit-10 deal to join Celtics in training camp. There’s a real possibility that he ends up in Maine, per Shams Charania, which would be the most surprising thing to see happen this offseason.
- Evan Fournier joins EuroLeague.
- Celtics are one month away from playing in Abu Dhabi against the Denver Nuggets to open up the preseason on Oct. 4.
- Jaylen Brown’s Twitter account has been hacked by a crypto scammer.
