Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Scheierman shines in Celtics debut

Boston Celtics first round draft pick Baylor Scheierman shined in his G League debut with the Maine Celtics in their first game of the season on Friday night against the Long Island Nets.

The Celtics rookie scored 31-points on 12-of-20 shooting from the field and 6-of-13 shooting from behind the arc. He also added seven assists, seven rebounds, one steal, and two blocks while tying the team-high with 37-minutes off the bench.

Scheierman scored 10-points in the second quarter as Maine was chipping towards a late comeback. He added another 13-points in the third quarter and converted a three-point play to give Maine their first lead of the game at 81-80.

As the Celtics are making a comeback to start the fourth quarter, Scheierman scored eight points on two step-back 3-pointers and a layup while also making three assists.

After spending the summer training in Boston, Scheierman made an early connection with JD Davison, who is on his third two-way contract with Boston and is the best player on Maine’s roster.

Davison also scored 31-points and it became the eighth time in franchise history that two players scored at least 30-points in the same game.

Scheierman shined in his debut. He played through the flow of the game and provided the team with anything it needed on both ends of the court. It’s what Boston wants to see from their first round rookie.

Here are his game highlights below:

Maine plays again on Monday night against the Delaware Blue Coats, continuing their road trip to begin the year.
