The Boston Celtics have 14 games scheduled in the month of November. They’re currently 6-2 with another six games to play, including their third back-to-back in the month alone.
Kristaps Porzingis is being more active during practice. He’s starting to ramp up his on-court work with coaches as he continues to progress towards returning to the court. Head coach Joe Mazzulla shared an update on Porzingis to the media.
“He’s getting there. He’s been able to do some stuff on the court. Some reads versus the coaches. Still, some up and down work, 5-on-1 vs. the coaches so he’s getting there.”
Porzingis is seen during pregames doing his own shooting drills and maneuvering routines on the court. He moves well and looks like his normal self; all great signs of him returning to the court as scheduled.
A few of Porzingis’ teammates commented on the upcoming return of their starting center, including Jrue Holiday, who’s excited for him to return.
“I’m looking forward to him coming back. Even just doing little drills here with him today, he just makes the game so much easier with his length, being able to protect the rim. And then obviously offensively, he makes the game so much easier for everybody – creating space for driving lanes or 3-point shots, not being able to switch off of him or when he gets a switch, him being able to take advantage of that. So can’t wait for him to come back.”
The addition of Porzingis will help Boston on both ends of the court. It’ll be great to see him play again within the next month or so.
Here’s more notes and takeaways from the Celtics:
- Payton Pritchard is averaging 16.2 points per game on 67.4% true shooting. In 13 games this season, he has seven total first halves with double-digit points, which is the most in the NBA. He leads the NBA in total points off the bench with 211 and is a favorite to win Sixth Man of the Year.
- Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum said that Pritchard is extremely important and valuable to the team. They both want to see him continue being successful this season.
- Joe Mazzulla didn’t appreciate Charles Lee visiting the Celtics in the locker room during the back-to-back games in Charlotte to start November.
- Jaylen Brown called Giannis Antetokunmpo a child, Nike threw a jab at Brown in return. Brown responded to Nike. Here’s more on the story:
