Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Kristaps Porzingis injury update after exiting Celtics-Wizards

The Boston Celtics just got Kristaps Porzingis back on the court after starting the season late from offseason surgery to repair an injury in his left leg, a torn retinaculum and dislocating his posterior tibialis.

He’s only played in six games before Sunday in Washington, averaging 19 points on 48 percent shooting and seven rebounds in 26.3 minutes per game.

Porzingis exited the game near the end of the second quarter with right heel pain and he did not return to the floor to play in the second half.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla didn’t have much of an update after the game during this postgame press conference, but Porzingis talked in the locker room after the game and said this about the situation:

“I banged up my heel a little bit in the first quarter and I kept in playing. It was nothing major, honestly. More like a precautionary thing. It was pretty sensitive. I told the medical staff, and they just pulled me out of the game. I don’t think it’s anything major.”

Prior to his injury, Porzingis was producing a great game for himself. He finished early with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting in 11 minutes with two rebounds, and two assists in the game.

Porzingis has looked great throughout the time he was on the court. I went back to see where he might’ve gotten hurt and I couldn’t find the exact play it happened. However, I did notice on his final offensive and defensive sequences that he looked a little weak but he was still maneuvering well, especially on defense.

In the clip, Porzingis goes all out on both ends of the court, but he’s a little weak on offense but then picks it up again on defense. He was subbed out by Luke Kornet after this sequence and didn’t return to the game.

The Celtics have three days off before the next game on Thursday against the Chicago Bulls at home in Boston. Hopefully it’s enough time for Porzingis to recover from this new heel injury.

“I think I should be fine for the next game.. we will see.”
