Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics fell apart in OKC, hand Thunder another win

The Boston Celtics went into OKC for the third game of a four-game road trip and completely fell apart in the second half, losing 105-92, and handed the Thunder their 15th consecutive win.

Boston played a solid first half. They scored 65-points and picked apart OKC’s defense for 14 assists. Boston held their own on defense and went into halftime with a 10-point lead.

The Celtics completely fell apart in the second half. They scored just 27-points and only made three assists. They also had Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Payton Pritchard, and Sam Hauser all go scoreless in the second half.

OKC limited the Celtics to only 15-points in the third quarter and 12-points in the fourth. They also shutdown the 3-point shooting, holding Boston to 9-of-46 shooting (19.6 percent).

There was a stretch in the fourth quarter that Boston didn’t score any points for three and a half minutes. Then OKC went on an 20-7 run in the final five-minutes.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla said postgame that OKC took advantage of poor spacing and it was too much for Boston to overcome as they were outscored 50-27 in the second half.

“They took advantage of our poor spacing and our poor screening. I think those are the two biggest things.”

Boston didn’t get any contributions from the bench. Payton Pritchard didn’t score at all and Sam Hauser struggled to get his shot going in this one.

It’s going to be hard to defeat teams with zero offensive production from five of the top eight players. In fact, Boston finished this game with a season-low in points (92), field goal percentage (36.5), 3-point field goal percentage (19.6), and assists (17).

The Celtics have one more game on this road trip (2-1), traveling to Denver for a showdown on Tuesday night against the Nuggets.
